Begun as a personal inquiry of how to respond as an artist to the November 2024 election, Adams' research led to a surprising conclusion.

We start In 1920s Germany with an icon of the Left: Paul Klee's (1879–1940) Angelus Novus, a small monoprint—a personal response to the rise of fascism in Germany that continues to inspire. The print was purchased in 1921 by Walter Benjamin, German critic and theorist, who took it with him when fleeing Germany in 1933. Post-war, we view artist's self-assessments of art as a tool to combat fascism. We conclude with current artists who address issues leading up to the past year's rise of authoritarian government and demise of democracy.
