Following on the presentation to Sessions 2024, the Quaker Indigenous Boarding School Research Group (QIBS) prepared a report to the U.S. Department of Interior (DOI). The Presiding Clerk signed and submitted the report on January 7, 2025; read the cover letter to the DOI and the report, linked below. Personal letters and a copy of the report were also prepared by the QIBS research group, signed by the Presiding Clerk, and sent to the 12 tribes in Oklahoma who were directly harmed by the assimilationist practices of the Boarding Schools that were funded and staffed by New England Quakers. This reporting represents more than two years of research and collaboration.
The QIBS Research Group is part of a network that goes beyond NEYM to include Friends from Alaska, Texas, New York, Washington DC, and Colorado. The network continues to meet weekly with the administrative support of the Toward Right Relationship with Native Peoples program of Friends Peace Teams. Researchers continue to search for answers to the question “What happened to our children?”
