A three-part online series introducing early Quaker contemplative practices for spiritual growth.
The “Experiment with Light” is a practice of opening to new possibilities by exploring what it means to “wait in the Light” as early Quakers did. Quaker scholar Rex Ambler put together a prompted meditation based on his studies of early Quaker worship. There are now “Light groups” meeting on a regular basis all over the world.
After the light illuminates a situation or aspect of ourselves, accepting what is shown to us brings eventual transformation of our hearts and our lives. We become more peaceful, joyful, compassionate, and loving.
In this series, we will do the meditation, contemplate the messages we receive, reflect through ways such as journaling or drawing, and share together in community. Through our three weeks together, we will become a community of support, sustenance, and growth.
Facilitator Shulamith Clearbridge is a member of Swarthmore Monthly Meeting. She led and co-led an ongoing Light Group for Middlebury, VT Friends for over five years, along with teaching this technique for other local and regional meetings and for interfaith groups.
