World Quaker Day is Sunday October 5th, on the theme Love your neighbor with the supporting Bible passage Galatians 5:14: "For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.’"
In times when environmental crisis and conflict, untruths and unfairness seem to dominate, let us see what Love can do – both through our words and as ‘doers of the word’ (James 1:22). Here are some ideas for how to participate:
- Support your neighbors: Organize an act of service to address needs in nearby communities. This might include standing in solidarity with refugees or migrants.
- Welcome your neighbors: Invite your local community or regular users of the meeting house or Friends Church to a service or Meeting for Worship, and use this poster to help get the word out to more people in your area.
- Share a message of love: Plan a meeting for learning, all-age worship or children’s session on Love your neighbor—words which occur eight times in the Bible.
- Connect with other faith communities: Plan a delegation to bring greetings to another place of worship in your area, and invite a reciprocal visit.
- Build international Quaker connections: Reach out to Friends in another country through a virtual or in-person visit, exchange letters or prayers, or learn about each other’s worship.
If you let FWCC know how you plan to take part by completing this online form, they can help promote your event or activity on their website so more people can see it and attend.
