Join Barnegat (NJ) Friends by Zoom on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 7 p.m., when author Mathilda Navias will share an in-depth understanding  of Quaker processes and insights into living in the Spirit.

Quaker process is much more than what goes on during business meeting. It encompasses how we interact with one another. It includes how the different pieces of our local meetings interact. It includes how we deal with leadings, concerns, and discernment, both as individuals and as corporate bodies. Good Quaker process helps us unite and build community.

In earlier times, Quaker culture and processes were learned by children and new attenders by observation, osmosis, and mentoring. Today newcomers are welcomed warmly but may feel a little lost when practices and jargon are not explained or when conscious guidance is not offered.  In her book, Quaker Process for Friends on the Benches, author Mathilda Navias fills many gaps by documenting processes about which little has been written. Her book encompasses worldwide practices across Quaker branches and traditions. The book helps Friends find and use processes that work well, that bring everyone into unity and loving concern for one another, and that resonate with the greater truths, where ensuing actions are undergirded by the power of the Spirit.

Understanding Quakerism is of value to anyone who cares about the world in which we live. Quaker practices offer a way of living a life of deep connection, a life in harmony with one’s internal spirit and with others.
