Join us in celebration of peace as we dedicate our Peace Pole on the grounds of the Concord Friends Meeting House, followed by dessert and fellowship together.
You are invited to attend the short, interactive ceremony which includes songs, peace quotations, and reflections on the path to peace.
Peace Poles originated in Japan 30 years after WWII. Today there are an estimated 250,000 Peace Poles found on every continent. Each pole is inscribed with the same message of “May Peace Prevail on Earth” but in diverse languages. Such poles are symbols of the universal desire for peace and goodwill that transcend religion, race, nationality, and creed.
The Concord Friends’ pole has 8 languages chosen to represent past and current conflicts— English, Abenaki, Japanese, Hebrew, Arabic, Swahili, Ukrainian and Spanish.
The peace pole is a silent reminder of our commitment and desire to live with respect, compassion, and a sharing of resources with all people.
