"It is a living ministry that begets a living people." From the beginning of the Quaker movement, the traveling minister has been an essential ingredient in the spiritual formation of communities, individual spiritual nurture, and outreach and witness to "the world." There have been times, as well, when traveling ministers have fostered controversy and disunity. In this conversation, Brian will provide an overview of the varieties and nature of Friends travel in the ministry across the centuries, and invite discussion on topics of interest.
Brian Drayton is our speaker for this important topic. Brian is a plant ecologist working in science education research, is a recorded Friends minister, who has long encouraged Friends' (Quakers’) unity and witness, drawing on resources for individual and community life found in early Quaker writings.
Brian is a member of Weare (NH) monthly meeting in New England Yearly Meeting. He and his wife Darcy Drayton, an artist and teacher, have two sons and two grandchildren.
