Seeking a New Childcare Coordinator for NEYM Sessions
Friends from all around New England, and often Quaker visitors from many parts of the world, gather for five days at the beginning of August for worship, and business, and learning, and play, and the joys of seeking together: this is New England Yearly Meeting Sessions. It has been for me and my family a time of extraordinarily deep and grounded community that shores up our faith and runs as a thread of inspiration through the rest of each year.
New England Yearly Meeting Sessions is an especially wonderful gathering for families, with Youth Programs that embrace our young people, providing a space of extraordinary attention, truthfulness, and integrity, as well as lasting friendships and lots of fun. Growing up, my own children were absolutely adamant that we needed to be at Sessions every summer, and now in their late twenties they still find ways most years to be there. In August 2017 Sessions will gather, as it has for the last few years, on the beautiful campus of Castleton State University in Vermont.
The Youth Programs at Sessions begin with Childcare: playing with, listening to, and caring for the littlest members of New England Yearly Meeting—babies through age four—in a well-equipped multi-room space and adjacent yard. Kimberly Walker-Gonçalves, who has coordinated childcare at Sessions for more than a decade with much grace and knowledge, needs to lay down that work. New England Yearly Meetings is now looking for someone with the experience and gifts to carry this ministry.
There is no more important work for building the future of Quakerism in New England, and really few happier ways to spend these August days. I have been a member of the childcare staff most summers in recent years, and it is a truly joyous place to be and thing to do. There are many dedicated staff happy to return to this work, quality toys and equipment, and a well-organized archive of materials and procedures to build on. But we need to find the right person to take on this work of loving community. A detailed job description is available here.
Yours in the light,
Clerk, Youth Ministries Committee
