You are here
Shake and Say
Take any sort of plastic containers with lids
Fill some ½ full, others 2/3rd, others ¾ with dried beans (any kind)
(different kinds of containers, beans and different fill levels make different sounds)
Especially if working with kids you can have them decorate the containers
Hand them out to people in the group
Start with one person
ask them to shake it while saying “Hey, hey, hoe, hoe; racism has to go”
Have the next person shake theirs and say “Hoe, Hoe, hey, hey; love and kindness are here to stay"
REPEAT AROUND GROUP
ask EVERYONE to shake thiers while saying “Hey, hey, hoe, hoe; racism has to go”
Have EVERYONE shake theirs while saying “Hoe, Hoe, hey, hey; love and kindness are here to stay
You can organize the sounds in various creative ways:
lower tones doing the hey, hey, hoe, hoes and the higher ones doing the hoe, hoe, hey, heys for example.
Especially with younger people they can enjoy marching around the room. Likewise in other settings it can be used to be disruptive or draw attention in a demonstration.
