New England Yearly Meeting

A community of Quakers and Quaker meetings across New England.

Reflections from New England Quakers

These were originally published in the April 2014 Edition of the New England Friend.

WHAT DOES LOVE REQUIRE OF US?

Leslie Manning (Durham MM), FUM General Board Rep | What does it mean to me to be a Quaker, knowing that the majority of Friends do not agree with me politically or spiritually? What does it mean to witness to "that of G-d" in those with whom I disagree?

COMMONALITY, DIVERSITY & HEALING A COMMUNITY

Kenneth A. Oye, Wellesley Friends Meeting | Concerning NEYM and Friends United Meeting: Do we have unity on principles? Can we accommodate principled differences on actions?

AN UNLIKELY FUM COMMITTEE MEMBER

Jay Smith (Concord MM), NEYM FUM Committee | When asked to serve on our the NEYM FUM Committee, I wasn't sure that the committee would want to have me. Despite my concerns, I learned that I was called to be there and in relationship with all parts of the FUM fellowship.

ENCOUNTERING DISCRIMINATION AMONG FRIENDS

Diane Dicranian, Farmington Monthly Meeting | Discrimination is alive in NEYM, but we do not talk about it, and I am angry. I believe that by supporting FUM we are endorsing policies that are biased against LGBTQ people and can only promote violence.
