About

This worship/workshop centers around John Papenuhang (a sachem/prophet) and the Wyalusing Community, which was an indigenous community on the frontier in Pennsylvania. The Friends were actively involved in the community (including John Woolman).

The worship/workshop will tell the story of the struggles of the Indigenous community during violent and troubling times and touch on ways in which this struggle can speak to us in our time in working with a broken and struggling population (poverty, addiction, etc.).

The day will begin at 9:00 a.m. for coffee and refreshment, followed by an introductory period and moving into a background of indigenous peoples with the influx of European immigrants, then focus on Papanehang and Wyalusing.

There will be a simple lunch available and after lunch there will be an opportunity to talk briefly regarding the implications of Wyalusing to our times.

The day will finish shortly after dinner.
