Quaker Dinner Church Boston
At Quaker Dinner church we share a simple, vegan meal of local foods, singing, queries, conversation, and expectant waiting worship in the manner of Friends (a practice of collective listening for the Still Small Voice). We work together to set the space with the goal of encouraging people to walk with one another and bring their questions and desires for conversation. The event is a welcoming Christian space: you don’t need to be a Quaker or a Christian to be there and everyone is welcome! During the meal we converse, at our tables, over a set of queries (focused question on which we can reflect), and then extend that conversation to the room as we share in a large group.
This is a family-friendly event; kids are warmly invited! Parents, you may want to know that we’ll gather with song, then eat at the beginning of the evening and have singing and a message during dinner, with silent waiting punctuating the meal. Some of the “gathering questions” will be kid-friendly, and I’ll have coloring pages and manipulatives in a "kids corner" if they prefer to gather together.
Together we’ll consider the parable of the seed from John 12:20-33. It’s a story about how God works in hidden spaces. There is work that God does in us, out of sight, bringing into the open what is within us. God’s inward work is for the purpose of opening us outward. God draws us deep inside, then draws us back into the world to bear the fruit that comes when our inner lives are congruent with our outer ones.
Please RSVP HERE for this gathering in Cambridge on March 30 so we have enough chairs and soup. Come between 5:30 and 5:45 pm to help create the space: slice bread, set tables, make sand-bowls. Just after 6pm, we will gather and begin.
More details to follow.
