Action Assembly for Immigration Issues
The Massachusetts Communities Action Network (MCAN), a network of faith-based community organizations in MA working for economic and racial justice, will be holding an Action Assembly on Tuesday, Feb. 27 from 6-8pm at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul (138 Tremont St., Boston, MA 02111). If you have any questions, please contact Luke at MCAN at lab[email protected].
There will be four different breakout groups:
- Accompaniment network: Learn about how to offer support and accompaniment to people as they deal with immigration hearings, ICE check-ins, court cases, and other types of advocacy and action. The network is currently building out its structure and capacity.
- Clergy visitation and legal support: We are looking to recruit clergy to visit immigrants in detention as well as lawyers who would be willing to offer pro-bono representation to detainees. If you are an attorney, but do not practice immigration law, we can match you up with an experienced immigration opportunity who can offer guidance.
- Prayer Vigils: Join a number of Boston-area congregations to organize prayer vigils at the ICE Detention Center at South Bay. At these vigils we gather to show our support and solidarity with those detained by ICE, and recommit ourselves to taking meaningful action justice.
- Escalation: Many of us have discerned that this moment requires us to put more on the line for immigration justice. We are looking for people who are ready to escalate the resistance and engage in riskier actions.
