12th Annual Juneteenth Celebration of the Freeing of African Saves in America
Slaves in the U.S. were officially freed on June 19, 1965, when General Grainger and 2,000 troops marched into Galveston, Texas, carrying and enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation.
The mayor of Brewer will present a proclamation for this special day, Pastor Brian Harris of the Destiny Worship Center will give the invocation, and we will hear from officials and other special guests. One of the highlights will be the presentation of an honor role of Human Rights Coalition supporters. There will also be a Black Lives Matter vigil.
This event is free and open to the public; refreshments will be served.
In the event of rain, the celebration will be held indoors in the Brewer Auditorium.
