Young Friends Retreat
The first large Young Friends retreat of the year! A gathering for high school age youth interested in building community and exploring the Quaker way.
The theme of the retreat, as chosen by the Young Friends gathered at Sessions, will be "Transitions". Throughout the program we will be exploring how we make space for the transitions between childhood and adulthood as well as reflecting on what it means for communities to be in transition. We'll also spend time getting to know each other in structured and unstructured ways and brainstorming ideas for the rest of our gatherings this retreat year. If the weather cooperates, we also hope to enjoy time in the woods surrounding the meetinghouse.
This retreat is pay-as-led (sliding scale). Participants pay what they can (between $0-$90+, with a suggested fee of $50) when they arrive.

Why are we starting on Saturday?
Most of our retreats in the past have started Friday night but this one will begin on Saturday afternoon. This is intentional! Over the past few months we've been gathering feedback on what makes retreats work and what challenges we've faced. We know that Friday arrivals are often difficult and exhausting for many youth and parents and that many of our participants find it hard to spend the whole weekend away from homework and other commitments. We also know that many YFs have the SATs on Saturday so would need to arrive late anyhow. Given this feedback. we are going to try a shortened retreat to see how it works for Young Friends and parents. We hope that by shortening the time of the event we can increase the level of presence and energy that everyone is able to bring into our shared space. We will gather feedback afterwards on how it went.
If you have any questions about the retreat, please do not hesitate to be in touch with me.
