At the beginning of the Quaker movement, George Fox advised Friends: Be still and cool in Thy own mind and spirit, from thy own thoughts, and then thou wilt feel the principle of God to turn thy mind to the Lord God, whereby thou wilt receive God’s strength and power from whence life comes, to allay all blusterings, storms, and tempests. (1658)
The Encountering Spirit Retreat offers Friends and newcomers the opportunity to do a deep dive into a fundamental aspect of Quaker spirituality— the direct encounter with God. What can Early Friends teach us about finding Truth and feeling the principle of God? Where does this encounter happen? How do we open ourselves to the gift of direct relationship? During the retreat, you’ll hear from different folks about what is powerful in Quaker faith and practice and get to reflect on your own spiritual journey, too.
