We’re all aging, it’s what we do! And sometimes that is wonderful, and sometimes it is scary, but we need not do it alone.
Many Friends from all over our region of every age support one another in all kinds of ways as we grow older, whether it is assistance with completing end-of-life decision-making documents, visits and phone calls, offering a listening ear about the challenges of growing older, celebrating milestones, welcoming an older formerly incarcerated Friend home, organizing care teams in crisis moments, recognizing the spiritual gifts of eldership/mentorship/wisdom, accompaniment to appointments, or supporting families and caregivers experiencing grief burnout or stress. The ARCH (Aging, Resources, Consultation and Help) Program is here to help with this ministry of accompaniment you may already be called to, or would like to feel more involved or supported in.
The ARCH Foundations Workshop is an introduction to the ARCH network: 150+ Friends (in New York Yearly Meeting and newly including Friends from New England Yearly Meeting) who form a community of practice in mutual accompaniment. It is open to anyone in New York or New England Yearly Meetings who would like to connect with a network of resources and support for a ministry of caring for each other and ourselves as we grow older or are differently abled. Friends involved with their meeting’s ministry or pastoral care committee, prison ministry, supporting families with children (who may also be supporting older relatives), Friends who are aging ourselves, or caring for someone who is growing older are encouraged to consider this workshop.
Our four sessions together will be engaging, reflective, nourishing, informative, and fun. Each two-hour session is complemented by additional exercises, readings, or group activities between sessions.
Save the date for our fall series: Tuesdays 6:30-8:30 p.m. October 4, 18, November 1, and 15.
Thanks to funding from the Friends Foundation for the Aging, this workshop is offered free of charge, although donations are welcome.
Registration details will be posted this summer.
