Join Friends to develop skills in Quaker decision-making processes in our Meetings and committees. We are offering two workshops to help community members gain more knowledge and skills. These workshops are open to all. We especially encourage people who are currently or soon-to-be clerks or recording clerks of meetings, committees or other groups, as well people who would like to become more active participants or leaders. The workshops will be led by Fritz Weiss, past presiding clerk of New England Yearly Meeting, Susan Davies, past clerk of Vassalboro Quarterly Meeting, Peter Bishop, recording clerk of New England Yearly Meeting and Northampton Friends Meeting, and and Hannah Forsythe, recording clerk of New England Yearly Meeting's Permanent Board.

This workshop is in two parts. Friends are invited to attend either the morning session or both sessions. (Attending the afternoon session alone is not recommended: the morning session is a prerequisite.)

9:00-9:30 Friendly gathering over tea and coffee
9:30-12:30 Clerking basics
12:30-1:30 Brown bag lunch
1:30-3:30 Delving deeper (breakout sessions focusing on the roles of clerk & recording clerk)

3:30-4:00 Closing worship

MORNING SESSION: Introduction to Clerking/Friends Decision Making

In the morning session, we will focus on key components of Friends decision making such as agenda, clerk, and recording clerk. No previous clerking experience required.

AFTERNOON SESSION: Delving Deeper into Clerking/Friends Decision Making

In the afternoon sessions, participants will gain experience facilitating Friends decision making as clerk or recording clerk. Using scenarios, you will have the opportunity to serve in various roles as well as problem solve challenges that arise in this process.

This workshop is sponsored by NEYM and hosted at Concord (NH) Friends Meeting.

Childcare is available by advance request. Please register and let us know by April 1 if you need childcare. We will do our best to accommodate you if you make the request afterward, but it can be difficult to find a childcare provider on short notice.

Questions about the workshop may be directed to Nia Thomas.
