UPDATE: Due to concerns about the coronavirus, this workshop will be online.

The topic is “Greening Our Meetings and Our Lives.”

An abbreviated program focusing on energy use in meetinghouses will be held via Zoom, starting at 9 a.m. and ending between 11 a.m. and noon. There will be no afternoon part of the program. If you wish to join in on this Zoom meeting, either by phone or computer, please contact Robert Murray, [email protected], to get the Zoom instructions.

John Reuthe of Vassalboro Meeting will be our resource for the Zoom meeting. John developed his greening expertise after personally visiting over 565 homes in central Maine. Funded by Efficiency Maine Trust, he and his volunteer team developed policies and procedures to help homeowners reduce energy use, improve the comfort level in their homes, and reduce their carbon footprint. They worked with energy auditors, contractors, apartment owners and various oversight agencies to provide efficient and cost-effective solutions. In 2011, John and his team received the prestigious Efficiency Maine Trust Philip C. Hastings Award for their work. John later led the Solarize Mid Maine Project (a group buy for the region). He also played a major role in the greening of the Vassalboro Friends Meeting House.

Participants will learn about weatherization, how to find resources, the opportunities for saving money, and next steps. No advance work is needed, but to get the most benefit from this interactive workshop, participants will be asked to do a bit of research on their meeting’s heating costs, square footage, and the age and type of the building and heating equipment.

We encourage all finance and buildings and grounds committee members, treasurers, clerks, and any other interested Friends to join us for what will be a very interesting and informative workshop.

Please register by emailing Bob Murray, Finance Committee clerk so we have an idea of how many to expect, and can send you a list questions to research about your home or meetinghouse to get the full benefit of this workshop.
