HELLOW JUNIOR HIGHERS!!!
I hope this letter finds you all well and looking forward to Yearly Meeting.
I am excited about spending time in community with each and every one of you. I'm also excited to be
coordinating the Junior High program after seven years of staffing.
The 2008 JHYM Staff dream team is made up of Adam
Kohrman, Amy Lee-Vieira, Anne
Anderson, Buddy Baker-Smith, Dave
Baxter, Emily Edwards, Jerry
Carson, Karen Sanchez-Eppler, Katey
Baker-Smith, and Lucy Churchill.
Junior High program will include much of the
following and some of the unmentioned: singing, worship sharing, fun,
discussions, games, theme-work, hang’n, skits, SLEEP, friends. . . you
name it, we’ve got it!
There will be an introductory meeting on Saturday afternoon that you must attend
with your parent or sponsor. We will just take a few minutes to introduce ourselves and explain a few things about our program.
If you have any questions before NEYM, just give
me a call at 860-712-6442 or email me at pricequakes@hotmail.com. Enjoy
your summers until then. . . We look forward to seeing you!!!
Peace,
Kara Price Bachand,
JHYM Program Coordinator
HELLO PARENTS/SPONSORS
I am looking forward to spending time with your Junior
Higher(s) at Yearly Meeting Sessions this year. I wanted to take
the opportunity to brief you on some important details of JHYM program. Although
we are still in the process of developing the JHYM program, some things
are for certain:
- There will be an orientation for Junior Highers and their
parents or sponsors on Saturday afternoon at 3:45 pm. It is mandatory
for all parents or sponsors and JHYM participants to attend this meeting
in order for staff to introduce themselves and fill in the remaining
details that parents or sponsors will need to know. This is an important
opportunity for parents, sponsors, and young people to hear about the
week’s program schedule and expectations for building a loving,
fun, and inclusive community. We welcome any questions you might
have as well.
- Junior High program will run from Saturday evening through Thursday
morning. There will also be an afternoon program which is optional
for Junior Highers. Specific times will be stated in the Junior High
program which you will receive at the orientation meeting.
- There will be a field trip to a nearby park for a day of swimming,
short hikes, games, and relaxing.
- There will be a Junior High “lounge” on some evenings.
This is for Junior High use only and serves as a place where Junior
Highers may opt to “hang out” in an informal but supervised
setting after program hours. This will be the only supervised location
for Junior Highers after program hours.
- Outside of program time, parents and sponsors are held fully responsible
for the whereabouts and safety of their children. Junior High staff
are responsible for children only within specific program times which
will be stated in the JH program.
- Getting enough sleep is crucial to a successful
week. So we encourage parents and sponsors to enforce an 10:30 pm curfew
for their Junior High children. This has worked extremely well in years
past and staff have appreciated the efforts of parents and sponsors
to see that our Junior Highers are safe, healthy, and reasonably rested
through the week.
If you have any questions before NEYM, just give me a call at 860-712-6442
or email me at pricequakes@hotmail.com.
Peace,
Kara Price Bachand,
JHYM Program Coordinator
