Introduction
The Personnel Committee of New England Yearly Meeting is a subcommittee
of Permanent Board. Its primary function is to examine issues affecting
our staff and forward recommendations to Permanent Board. The committee
reviews the personnel policies and job descriptions recommending
revisions as appropriate. It receives annual reviews of NEYM staff
members, conducted by the Yearly Meeting Secretary and works with
the Coordinating & Advisory, the Yearly Meeting Secretary, and
Finance Committee to develop the employee related items in the annual budget.
The current annual work flow of the committee:
- August (at Sessions) - Select clerk and recorder for Committee. Orientation for new members.
- September/October - Meet with staff to discuss any issuses
or concerns. Review the Annual Staff Work Plan.
- January/February- develop the employee related
items for the annual budget.
- June/July - Receive written evaluations for all NEYM staff. Review budget
recommendations.
There are ususally 5 to 7 meetings during the year depending on the issues requiring the committees discernment.
The Personnel Policy Manual details the employee benefits and policies of the Yearly Meeting. It also includes the practices of the Personnel Committee.
Personnel Committee Purpose and Procedures (Approved
at 2009 NEYM Sessions)
Purpose:
The Personnel Committee provides policy coordination for the Yearly
Meeting staff. It receives the annual performance appraisal for
the Yearly Meeting Secretary from the Coordinating and Advisory Committee,
and it receives the annual performance appraisals for the Camp Director
from the Camp Committee. The Personnel Committee also receives annual performance
appraisals for all other staff from the Yearly Meeting Secretary.
Staff can appeal their annual appraisals to the Personnel Committee. It makes
recommendations to Permanent Board regarding personnel policies, job descriptions,
salary, fringe benefits, and it forwards recommendations to Permanent Board
on continuing staff employment.
The committee maintains a Personnel Policy Manual that included its
own practices as well as general Yearly Meeting employment practices. Copies
are available through the Yearly Meeting office.
Procedures:
The committee reports to the Permanent Board. Committee members are
nominated by Permanent Board’s Internal Nominating Committee and approved
by Permanent Board. Committee members need not be members of the Permanent
Board. The Committee meets at Yearly Meeting Sessions and at four or five
additional times during the year.
Membership:
Permanent Board names 6 individuals to the committee for 3 year terms. The terms are staggered so that 2 positions must be filled each year. The Committee chooses a clerk from among these members.
